《 the rider 》
◦ lore ◦
Note: Raisa's lore adheres to a canon based on a crossover between the Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy 14 universes.
- Personality -Blunt and awkward, Raisa struggles to forge and maintain deep connections with other people. She vastly prefers the company of her animal companions, and values a comfortable silence over aimless chatter. Some have noted that she is charming and extremely loyal, but she shrugs off these claims and almost seems embarrassed to be seen in a softer light than what she puts on.In her early childhood, she was very outgoing, had many questions, and loved to talk, but following her grandfather's death and her adoption into Imperial-occupied Bozja, she became more withdrawn and shy.She used to be more of a people-pleaser, trying to mold her identity and outward demeanor to try and appeal to others, but eventually dropped this in lieu of a "do no harm, but take no shit" type of attitude.Raisa is still curious and prefers to avoid violence, but as she gets older, she has less patience for things she personally finds objectionable, and can be rather imposing. However, her closest friends still maintain that she's sweet, a bit of a goofball in her own way, and endlessly loving. She would still claim that this is not the case, but. Alas.
- History -
EARLY CHILDHOOD
A child of Tural, Raisa was born to a Hhetsarro musician named Onça and a Shetona engineer named Sahir. Sahir - wandering far from his remote rider village - was enamored with Onça's free spirit and her close-knit family. The two enjoyed their time together, but were both ill-prepared for the realities of raising a child and how it interfered with their independence.Sahir and Onça would argue in increasing ferocity and vitriol, culminating in Sahir reluctantly taking the young Raisa and leaving to the far coasts. He did not return to the village of his mother, but to the one his father - Raisa’s grandfather - called home.Redvan "Red" of Tazeen had been estranged from his partner and children for many, many years after his eldest daughter perished in an outbreak of a plague known as the Black Blight wiped out over half of the village of Tazeen's population. Feeling helpless in the face of so much death, he took his beloved Rathalos, Laeus, and took to a nomadic lifestyle, eventually choosing to settle on the Island of Hakolo in the rider village of Mahana. When his son came to him, he was surprised, but eager to repair the rift that had grown between them. Red happily took on the responsibility of parenting the young Raisa, who adored her grandfather and the lifestyle he led on the sunny island, with her father remaining present in her life, if awkwardly and less paternal.Still, Raisa loved her grandfather, the other villagers of Mahana, and most of all - flying with Red and Laeus and the promise of a future as a rider.Unfortunately, these days were not meant to last.
THE STRANGE LIGHT & ILSABARD
The strange pits seemingly began to open up around the world overnight, destroying the ecosystems and villages around them. Bright, red light would bleed forth from each, seemingly endless depression in the earth, driving animals mad and frightening people. As the phenomenon drew closer and closer to the peaceful hamlet of Mahana, Red - fearful for the safety of his loved ones - began to investigate. His expeditions into the scarred continent were brief at first. He would leave his granddaughter in the care of her father and the village chief, Gara. Raisa - now almost eight years old - worried for her grandfather and missed him dearly. On one of his returns, he brought with him three wyverians she had only met a couple times in person. Red introduced them as Ena, Alwin, and Zellard: friends from his own childhood who had recently experienced great destruction near their home after a strange pit had opened up nearby.Red, troubled by these events, had mapped out a trail of destruction and was going to go on a much longer expedition with his friends to try and pinpoint the next event in an attempt to understand what was happening and why, with hopes of preventing another disaster.Raisa, feeling anxious, snuck aboard their caravan and followed the group as they left the peaceful island of Hakolo. She was caught, and nearly returned home, but her pleas to stay appealed to Ena - who was close friends with Red and saw much of him in his granddaughter - and with much reluctance on the part of the adults, allowed to travel with them for a time. They crossed the sea, across the border known as the other side, and came to the continent of Ilsabard.
BOZJA & GARLEMALD
One night, some weeks into their journey, the convoy had stopped in an Imperial-occupied village on the outskirts of the city-state once known as Bozja. There had been rumors of tremors beneath the earth, strange cries in the night, and bright lights that defied explanation. Though the empire of Garlemald occupied these lands, their military presence was thin out here, and the downtrodden villagers were reluctant to take action against the strange happenings in their home, fearful they were the result of Imperial experimentation.Raisa and Ena were meant to have stayed behind, while Zellard, Alwin, and Red investigated the surrounding landscape, when all hell broke loose. That night, as they lay in their lodgings, a terrible cry broke through the air as a massive reptilian beast - the likes of which Raisa had never seen before - burst into the village square. It was frenzied, and not alone, for soon it seemed the entire forest awoke with the cries of distraught animals. The ground shook, bright red light shone through cracks in the foundation, and everything fell apart.Panicking, Raisa became separated from Ena in her attempts to find her grandfather and his Rathalos. People knocked each other around, trying to flee, and then the ground split open.Raisa was caught in the talons of Laeus, while Ena, Alwin, and Zellard scrambled to save Red from falling into the pit. As the dust began to settle, however, a worse cry came from the sky as a black dragon swooped down, attacking Laeus and knocking Asha unconscious against the debris of a fallen building. It was quiet when she came to. There was no light, save for the stars above and the embers from fallen lanterns. Raisa struggled to find her bearings, but could not make her way around the edge of the massive pit with her injuries. She could not see or hear anyone, not her grandfather, his companions, or his trusted partner. No villagers with their strange language, nothing. Her ears were ringing, and she was alone, helpless. Still, she struggled to call for help, eventually tripping over the remnants of her grandfather's caravan at the far edge of what had once been the village. Sharp stones cut into her paws, and as she made to pull them free, she realized they had once been set in her grandfather's jewelry.Raisa spent the entire night calling for help, rooting through the debris until her hands bled and her fur was matted, but no one answered her. Some time later - days, or hours, it was difficult for her to tell with her head injury and the panic building within her - Imperial troops came to the lost village and found her there instead. A few other survivors had managed to flee and find help, and one charitable soul recognized her as a traveler come to help the village. With nowhere left to go, unable to speak the language of the land she was in, Raisa was taken away.
NADJA & MISIJA
The empire of Garlemald had little to no use for a sick, injured child who could not communicate. Though the IVth legion - left in charge of the land Raisa was stranded in - had gained some notoriety for its welfare programs, those precious resources were spent on denizens of their conquered territories who showed loyalty and promise: neither of which Raisa could provide in her state. She was thus left to fend for herself. Alone, friendless, and reeling from what she had witnessed, she spent her days in a feverish haze, unable to do much beyond digging for scraps of food and cloth she could use to bind her wounds. It was there - on the streets, a mess and unwell - that she met another child. Misija Votyasch was a lowborn Bozjan whose parents had been gunned down in the midst of conflict between the Garlean empire and those few Bozjans trying to push back against the invasion of their home.Misija was not one for friends: her place in Bozjan society rendered her fodder for her so-called 'betters', filth not to be spoken to beyond contempt, and an outsider to the imperials that offered her sanctum in exchange for labor. Other lowborn children who could not meet the strict demands placed upon them would not be able to access food, shelter, medicine, or education, and thus it was horrifyingly common to see their skinny, broken bodies littering the Bozjan slums. But Raisa was odd: stubborn, persistent. She survived where others did not - could not - and Misija was drawn to her. Though they could not speak to one another, and their first meeting was one of fear and wariness, Misija found herself returning to the alleyway Raisa had taken up as her own living space.Sometimes the other child brought food, clean water, and blankets. Sometimes she would just show up and talk to Raisa. Or, rather, talk at her. Still, Raisa found herself desperate for the company without contempt, and the two found other ways to communicate.-tbc-

◦ lio & companions ◦
◦ lio ◦

Lio is Raisa's trusted mount and companion. Found as an egg when Raisa was reaching fifteen summers of age and living in Tazeen, he was hatched utilizing the aether from the remnants of her grandfather's kinship stone and subsequently bonded to her.He is rather friendly and perhaps a bit goofy for a wyvern of his size, but a powerful ally in the field nonetheless. Though he is not a silly horsebird as some have likened him to or a dog, his friendship must be earned through care and attentiveness though some may find bribery through treats and tablescraps to be a sufficient replacement for effort put into forging a relationship with him.- About -Species: Rathalos (Dreadking / Blackflame)Age: Approx. 13 years oldGender: MaleElement Affiliation: Fire (Natural), Dragon (Attuned / Channeled)
◦ persimmon ◦

Persimmon, or Persi - as she prefers to be called - is a felyne hunter from Gildegaran, and Raisa's beloved Navigator.Originating from the research outpost of Astera, Persimmon left in search of new hunts and opportunities, only to find herself dismayed at human bias against felynes. She struggled to find legitimate work, and did not want to serve a hunter as a Palico.Alas, only Gildegaran's guildmaster was willing to employ the ferocious felyne, but Persi was still dissatisfied and refused to work with humans. When a young Raisa and other riders from Tazeen showed up, the guildmaster bade Persimmon to guide the inexperienced youth and teach them about hunter culture: a job Persimmon found insulting and unsuited to her skillset. She avoided the riders as much as she could, sending them out to perform menial tasks in hopes of dissuading them from seeking her out while she attended to more serious hunts. When one of the gathering quests she sent Raisa and Lio on turned out to have a dangerous Nerscylla involved, she stepped in to help the young rider and was subsequently injured. Ashamed of having been dismissive of her charges, Persimmon opted to follow Raisa and teach her more about the world outside of the more isolated rider villages, hoping to make amends for her previous behavior.
